Last week, Year 3 Pelican @FP had the exciting opportunity to visit the Ramses and the Pharaohs’ Gold: The Exhibition at Battersea Power Station. The trip gave the children a fantastic chance to deepen their understanding of Ramses II and the fascinating world of ancient Egypt.

During the visit, the children explored a wide range of incredible artefacts, including ancient statues, jewellery, coffins and beautifully crafted objects made from gold. They were particularly intrigued by the detailed decorations and hieroglyphics which helped us to imagine what life may have been like over 3,000 years ago. The exhibition also gave the children the opportunity to learn about ancient Egyptian beliefs, including their burial practices and the importance of preparing for the afterlife.

The immersive displays and dramatic lighting helped bring history to life, and the children showed great curiosity and enthusiasm as they moved through the exhibition. They asked thoughtful questions, shared their knowledge from our classroom learning, and demonstrated excellent behaviour throughout the visit.

It was a memorable experience that helped make our history learning feel real and meaningful and the children returned to school full of excitement and new facts to share.

The sun finally sprung on our Spring term this week, so Hummingbird class @FP did the right thing and went outside in the sunshine for a story. Using the schools’ fabulous outside reading area in the playground, and the schools’ fabulous business manager Suzanne to read to the children, we sat and enjoyed The Heart and the Bottle by Oliver Jeffers. Suzy asked us questions about the story as she read. Cheers Suzy, come back and read again! 

It has been another busy and exciting half term in Kingfisher Class @FP as we continue our journey through Year 4.

In English, we have been writing our own creative fairytales, focusing on story structure, character description and imaginative vocabulary.

In Maths, we have continued developing our understanding of fractions, showing great perseverance and improving confidence.

In History, we have carried on exploring the fascinating Shang Dynasty, building on our knowledge of ancient China, while in Geography we have been learning all about South America, including its countries, landscapes and key features.

We have also continued working hard on our listening skills and following classroom expectations, and it has been lovely to see the children’s continued maturity. A real highlight of the term was our fantastic trip to Cineworld O2 Greenwich where we watched The Bad Guys 2—the children had an amazing time and represented the school brilliantly. We are so proud of all their efforts and can’t wait to finish the Spring 2 term on a high!

Heron Class @FP – British Science Week! 

Heron Class have had a fantastic time celebrating British Science Week! We have been busy exploring lots of exciting scientific questions and carrying out our own investigations.

Our main enquiry this week was “Can seeds grow without soil?” After setting up our own experiments and observing carefully, we discovered that yes – seeds can grow without soil! We loved watching the changes each day and thinking like real scientists.

On Wednesday, we also enjoyed a carousel of fun science tests. The children experimented with making volcanoes erupt, explored different reactions and even investigated the probability of bread landing butter side down! There were lots of predictions, surprises and plenty of excitement along the way.

We also spent some time exploring different herbs, using our senses to smell and look closely at them. This has inspired us to start something special, and we are very excited to soon be opening Heron’s Herb Garden! 

It has been a brilliant week of curiosity, questioning and discovery in Heron Class! 

Heron Class @FP had an amazing time celebrating World Book Day! The classroom was full of fantastic costumes. We saw superheroes, princesses, wizards and lots of characters from our favourite stories. The children loved showing their outfits and talking about the books their characters come from.

We also had a special visit to the library where the children explored lots of different books and enjoyed choosing stories to look at together.

One of the best parts of the day was a special story from Mrs Anderson. She told us about dual language books and shared a lovely story with us. We learned that some books can be read in two different languages, which helps more people enjoy the same story.

It was a fun day full of stories, imagination and a love of reading. Well done Heron Class for your brilliant costumes and fantastic listening! 🌟📖

In Dove Class @FP, we have been enjoying the story Supertato by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet.

The children have been creating their own actions to help retell the story, drawing detailed story maps, and writing fantastic character descriptions. They have shown great enthusiasm and creativity throughout our work on the book.

Next, the children will be designing and creating their very own character to include in a brand-new class story.

This week, Nightingale Class @FP have been starting each day with a sensory massage, helping everyone use kind hands, stay calm, and begin the day focused in the green zone. It’s been so popular that a few children from other classes have joined in too!

Kaiden has been busy honing his construction skills, planning, building, and creating a variety of impressive structures.

Outside, the class has begun clearing weeds in preparation for Science Week, getting our outdoor space ready for exploration.

Finally, Rafael impressed us all with an incredible job application to be the Ship’s Cook on Shackleton’s journey to Antarctica, showcasing his brilliant use of adjectives with the suffix -ous.

This half term, Eagle Class @FP are fully embracing their role as young scientists! In every lesson, the children are developing their working scientifically skills by planning their own enquiries, making predictions and drawing conclusions from real evidence.

This week, we took our learning outdoors to the Forest School garden to enjoy the sunshine while investigating an exciting question: Which paper towel absorbs the most water? The children tested a range of materials including school blue paper towel, kitchen roll, jumbo paper towel and plain tissue paper. Working collaboratively in groups, each child took on an important role such as measuring, testing or recording, showing fantastic teamwork and responsibility.

There was great excitement as results were measured and compared, and thoughtful discussions took place about thickness, strength and absorbency. The children impressed us with their ability to explain their findings scientifically and reflect on how to make their tests even more reliable.

It has been wonderful to see Eagle Class so engaged, curious and enthusiastic. 

Falcon class @FP has been absolutely buzzing lately, and it’s all thanks to their weekly adventures in the school library! It has been wonderful to see the students so genuinely excited to explore new worlds, dive into captivating stories, and foster a lifelong love for reading. Beyond just the thrill of picking out a new book, our library visits provide essential benefits, including improved literacy skills, a quiet space to cultivate focus, and a wonderful opportunity for students to practice independent research and curiosity. Big shout out to our wonderful librarians in Jemima and Sophie! Whoop whoop!!!

We cannot believe that we are already halfway through Year 4 Kingfisher Class @FP! Spring 1 has been a fantastic half term in Kingfisher Class, and we are so proud of all the progress the children have made. They have truly matured and grown in both their learning and their attitudes.

This half term, we have been busy developing our writing skills. The children thoroughly enjoyed writing their own pet poetry, using creative language, similes and powerful vocabulary to bring their poems to life. We have also written detailed and engaging information texts, focusing on clear structure, headings, paragraphs and factual language. It has been wonderful to see such improvement in presentation and confidence in writing.

In Maths, we have been working hard on multiplication and fractions. The children have shown great determination when learning and practising their times tables, and this has really helped them when solving more challenging multiplication problems. In fractions, we have been learning about equivalent fractions and comparing fractions. The class has demonstrated resilience and a positive attitude when tackling tricky concepts.

Our History topic took us back in time to the fascinating Shang Dynasty. The children loved learning about ancient Chinese civilisation, including oracle bones, bronze casting and the role of kings. They asked thoughtful questions and made excellent comparisons with other time periods we have studied.

In Geography, we explored the amazing world of the rainforests. We learned about the different layers of the rainforest, the animals that live there and why rainforests are so important to our planet. The children showed great curiosity and concern for environmental issues, particularly deforestation.

We have also been focusing on our listening skills and following classroom rules. It has been wonderful to see how much the children have matured. They are showing greater independence, responsibility and respect for one another. Being halfway through Year 4 is a big milestone, and the growth in confidence and learning behaviours has been fantastic to see.

We are incredibly proud of everything Kingfisher Class has achieved this half term. The children have worked hard, supported one another and continued to strive for their very best.

We cannot wait to see what exciting learning Spring 2 will bring!
