Falcon class @FP has been absolutely buzzing lately, and it’s all thanks to their weekly adventures in the school library! It has been wonderful to see the students so genuinely excited to explore new worlds, dive into captivating stories, and foster a lifelong love for reading. Beyond just the thrill of picking out a new book, our library visits provide essential benefits, including improved literacy skills, a quiet space to cultivate focus, and a wonderful opportunity for students to practice independent research and curiosity. Big shout out to our wonderful librarians in Jemima and Sophie! Whoop whoop!!!

We cannot believe that we are already halfway through Year 4 Kingfisher Class @FP! Spring 1 has been a fantastic half term in Kingfisher Class, and we are so proud of all the progress the children have made. They have truly matured and grown in both their learning and their attitudes.

This half term, we have been busy developing our writing skills. The children thoroughly enjoyed writing their own pet poetry, using creative language, similes and powerful vocabulary to bring their poems to life. We have also written detailed and engaging information texts, focusing on clear structure, headings, paragraphs and factual language. It has been wonderful to see such improvement in presentation and confidence in writing.

In Maths, we have been working hard on multiplication and fractions. The children have shown great determination when learning and practising their times tables, and this has really helped them when solving more challenging multiplication problems. In fractions, we have been learning about equivalent fractions and comparing fractions. The class has demonstrated resilience and a positive attitude when tackling tricky concepts.

Our History topic took us back in time to the fascinating Shang Dynasty. The children loved learning about ancient Chinese civilisation, including oracle bones, bronze casting and the role of kings. They asked thoughtful questions and made excellent comparisons with other time periods we have studied.

In Geography, we explored the amazing world of the rainforests. We learned about the different layers of the rainforest, the animals that live there and why rainforests are so important to our planet. The children showed great curiosity and concern for environmental issues, particularly deforestation.

We have also been focusing on our listening skills and following classroom rules. It has been wonderful to see how much the children have matured. They are showing greater independence, responsibility and respect for one another. Being halfway through Year 4 is a big milestone, and the growth in confidence and learning behaviours has been fantastic to see.

We are incredibly proud of everything Kingfisher Class has achieved this half term. The children have worked hard, supported one another and continued to strive for their very best.

We cannot wait to see what exciting learning Spring 2 will bring!

Heron Class @FP Home Learning – Amazing Vehicle Creations! 

We’ve been so impressed with the fantastic home learning that has been coming in this term. So many children have designed and built their own vehicles at home using creative materials — from cardboard and bottle tops to recycled boxes and construction kits. The effort, imagination, and problem-solving skills on display have been brilliant!

This links perfectly with our DT learning this term, where we are exploring how wheels, axles, and bases work together to make vehicles move. In class, we have been investigating different types of wheels and axles, testing how they turn, and thinking carefully about how to build a strong base so a vehicle can travel smoothly.

Thank you for your continued support at home — it makes a huge difference to the children’s learning and confidence. Keep up the great building, designing, and experimenting!

Heron Class have been exploring the work of Wassily Kandinsky in our art lessons. We looked closely at his famous circle compositions and discussed how he used colour, shape, and layering to create bold abstract artwork.

The children then created their own circle-inspired pieces using mixed media techniques, including collaging and layering different materials to build texture and depth. They thought carefully about their colour choices, experimenting with warm and cool colours and how these can complement and contrast with each other to create strong visual impact.

We were so impressed with the creativity, care, and artistic confidence shown — each piece is unique and full of personality. Heron Class should be very proud of their fantastic outcomes! 

In history Parakeet Class @FP have been learning all about the Shang Dynasty. We have looked at how they lived, what they ate and this week we have been learning about their homes. We went on to recreate models of Shang Dynasty houses.

English: This week we have been writing information texts on hybrid animals. Our focus was writing using subheadings and paragraphs. We had so much fun designing and sharing our animals.

In Geography we have been learning all about the Amazon rainforest. We have learnt about the different layers and what animals can be found in each one. We have looked at climate and we went on to make our own deforestation posters.

In maths we have been learning about fractions. We have done really well. We used fraction manipulatives to help us. Knowing our multiplication tables made this a lot easier. Please continue to practise these at home!

This week, Duckling Class @FP have been enjoying the classic tale The Gingerbread Man. 

The children loved listening to the story, joining in with repeated phrases, and talking about the characters and events. We explored the story sequence, made predictions, and discussed what might happen next.

When it came time to bake our own gingerbread men, there was lots of excitement, and a little bit of worry!  After reading the story, the children joked that we’d better keep a close eye on them in case they ran away and tried to take over the school, just like in the story. Everyone agreed we needed to work quickly and carefully before they made their escape!

The children followed a simple recipe, measuring ingredients, mixing, rolling the dough, and cutting out their gingerbread men. This hands-on activity supported early maths skills, fine motor development, listening, and following instructions.

Luckily, all of our gingerbread men stayed put, and no school takeover occurred! The children were incredibly proud of their baking and loved bringing the story to life in such a fun (and delicious) way. Well done Ducklings!

Hummingbird class @FP have taken a tour around the school to help with our vocabulary building. We visited different rooms and parts of the school, and used our senses to described them in different ways. We created noun phrases, and expanded noun phrases, and recorded them in our books to enhance our writing later on. The different places had different sounds, different looks, and even different smells, that ignited our creativity and got us thinking. Come and have a read to see for yourself!
