  • Year 3 Pelican Class News @FP

    Fri 28 Feb 2025

This week in Pelican class @FP the half term has got off to a great start. We have been doing lots of exciting learning together.

In reading we have been looking at information texts and focusing on finding key facts. We read a text all about mountains and volcanoes and worked hard to answer all the questions.

We have enjoyed our poetry writing about our favorite object this week. We collected our ideas at the beginning of the week, performed some poems we love. Then we wrote our own poems to read out to the class. Some of us even decided to turn our poems into songs!

We loved our computing lesson this week and we had a go at programing on the Scratch app. We worked in pairs t program our character to move across our chosen background in different ways.

It has been a fun start and we look forward to the rest of the term ahead!

  • YR R/1 Dove Class News @FP

    Wed 12 Feb 2025

In Dove class @FP this week, we have been looking at the story ‘The Magic Paintbrush’. We have loved using our imaginations to create something that we would like to come to life, painting, drawing and writing about our creations.

In geography we have been learning about positional language, directing others around the room using forwards, backwards, left and right. Then we had a go with the Bee Bots, pressing the arrows we needed to move the bee around the map.

In science we have been conducting lots of experiments. Have a look at some of the pictures and ask your child about them. It was so much fun.

Next half term we will be learning about Superheroes and people who help us as well as planting/growing. We hope you have a lovely half term.

  • REC Duckling Class News @FP

    Tue 11 Feb 2025

This week in Reception Ducking Class @FP,

This week, Duckling Class @FP has been buzzing with excitement as we dove into a fun, unexpected twist on a classic tale – “The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig”.  With its humorous take on the familiar story of the three little pigs, this book has captured the children’s imaginations and sparked wonderful conversations about creativity, problem-solving, and resilience.

    What’s the story about?

In this delightful retelling, we follow three brave little wolves who are determined to build their homes and protect them from the Big Bad Pig. However, this pig is no ordinary villain—he’s clever and uses all sorts of unexpected gadgets and tools to try and blow their houses down! From brick houses to flower-filled ones, the wolves show that with clever thinking and teamwork, you can overcome any challenge. It’s a tale full of surprises, laughter, and a very happy ending!

    What have we been learning?

This story has given us so many opportunities for exploration and learning:

    • Creative Thinking & Problem-Solving: The wolves’ ability to think creatively while building their homes inspired the children to come up with their own inventive ideas. From houses made of flowers to homes built from strong materials, our little ones had so much fun building their own “safe” spaces during playtime.
    • Perseverance & Resilience: The wolves’ determination in the face of the pig’s challenges is a fantastic example of resilience. We discussed how it’s important to keep going, even when things don’t go as planned.
    • Character Exploration: The story gave us the chance to talk about how characters can be both good and bad in their own ways. What makes the wolves so clever? What’s the pig’s motivation? The children loved sharing their ideas on what makes each character special!
    • Literacy Skills: As we read and retold the story, the children practiced their storytelling skills. They were eager to remember the details and excited to discuss their favorite parts. We also focused on new vocabulary and descriptive language, helping them connect words to their own experiences.

    What’s Coming Up Next?

The fun doesn’t stop here! We will continue exploring themes from The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig with a series of hands-on activities:

    • Building Challenge: Just like the wolves, the children will design and construct their own homes using a variety of materials. How can they make their houses as strong as possible? It’s sure to be a fantastic exploration of engineering and teamwork.
    • Art and Craft: The wolves and their unique homes will come to life in our art corner. We’ll be using different materials like paper, sticks, and fabric to create our own versions of the wolves and their creative houses.
    • Role-Playing Fun: The children will step into the story by acting out scenes as the wolves and the Big Bad Pig, allowing them to practice their language and social skills in a fun and imaginative way.

    Home Learning Challenge!

We’d love for you to continue the fun at home! This week’s challenge: Build your own “safe house,” just like the wolves! What materials would you use to make it strong and secure? Is it made of bricks, flowers, or something else? Snap a photo or draw a picture of your creation and bring it to school to share with the class!

Thank you for your continued support. We can’t wait to see how the children continue to engage with this delightful story and all the creative ideas that spring from it!

  • YR3 Parakeet Class News @FP

    Wed 05 Feb 2025

In Parakeet class @FP, we have been reading the book ‘Eat your Peas’ by Kes Gray and Nick Sharratt in Parakeet Class. This week we have been tasked with writing our own persuasive letters. We looked at arguments for eating peas and made up some funny ideas of our own. We then thought of ways to persuade Daisy to eat her peas and had a lot of fun doing so! Wouldn’t you eat your peas for a brand-new bike and a chocolate factory of your own?  We then went on to write a letter to Daisy and they turned out very persuasive. I know I will be eating my peas for the foreseeable future!

This week we have been learning how to measure in cm, mm and metres. We have looked at what would be most appropriate for different objects. We have been looking at equivalent lengths and how to add and subtract lengths. We have also measured things ourselves to get lots of practise in!

In DT we have been trying to make our own pyramids to link with our history topic on Ancient Egypt. We have looked at pyramid nets and experimented with different materials to make our pyramids stronger.

  • YR6 Eagle Class News @FP

    Mon 03 Feb 2025

YR6 Eagle class @FP, in our topic about ‘Light’ we are learning how light travels. We have conducted several investigations and found out that if you place a torch on a table in a dark room, the beam travels in a straight line. The shadow has the same shape as the object that cast it and it changes as the light source moves. We have used mirrors to make periscopes. This week we have looked at Isaak Newton’s discovery of how light shining onto a glass prism is a similar process to a formation of rainbow as the glass prism separates the white light into colours. To show this, we have made colour changing wheels- when you spin it very fast, the colours blend and you can see white again.
