Year 3 Pelican Class News @FP
Thu 14 Nov 2024Welcome to Pelican class’ Newsletter!
Thank you to every parent who attended the ‘Parent Teacher’, evening, it was greatly appreciated.
In Pelican class @FP, we have had a busy and exciting previous Half-term. However, Parents this term promises to be even more eventful!
Our team would like to ask you to continue to support and encourage your child to attend school so that they can achieve the best from their learning. We plan to put on a LKS2 ‘Christmas Songs Extravaganza’ for 2024, that spread festive Cheer.
Reading: The children have been reading, ’24 Hours in the Stone Age’, a story about Joins a young girl as she goes hunting, makes her own stone tools and creates amazing cave art. We learn all about the dangers of life in the Stone Age, what makes a good shelter and what edible plants can be gathered in the wild. At the End the children explore the use of an Index and Glossary when reading.
The children are really enjoying this book and exploring the skills needed for reading and the development of their comprehension.
Young Writers’, Little Dreamers competition’, some exciting news about your children in both year three classes. Forty- two children were chosen for publication in ‘Wonderverse’ Poetry National book. Letters will have been given to the children and should be returned by Wednesday 13th November to the publishers or to School to be posted off. It’s really important that parents get their letters as ‘Young Writers’ publishers need your permission to publish your child’s work, so I really appreciate you taking the time to ensure they are posted off on your child’s behalf.
In English we have continued exploring what it means to be a writer and writing for different purposes. Year three have gone on to create, shape poems, Story books, and reports on ‘Henrietta Lacks’, for Black History Month.
In maths we continue to explore the value of each digit within a number. For example, the 5 in 350 represents 5 tens, or 50; however, the 5 in 5,006 represents 5 thousand, or 5,000. The children have been working less with worksheets and learning to present their work carefully in the maths books.
In Science we have been learning about our body’s skeleton, its importance to the body, and how it works.
In Music we continue to work on using the untune drum and the tune instrument of a xylophone to enrich our Christmas show.

YR3 Kestrel Class News @FP
Wed 13 Nov 2024In Kestrel class @FP, last half term we were learning all about Ancient Greece in History, Geography and DT.
In DT lessons, children have had an opportunity to research, design, make and evaluate jewellery. First they researched influential jewellery designers throughout the years and designed a piece of jewellery from a chosen style before creating a prototype. After that children were able to make a step-by-step plan of stages, tools and equipment needed to follow a plan and create a product. At the end, they were able to evaluate product against success criteria, indicating what went well and what could be improved.

Year 1/2 Heron Class News @FP
Wed 23 Oct 2024We’ve had a great term in Year 1/2 Heron class @FP and what a way to start our last week! On Monday, the children at Forster Park took part in an African Drumming workshop to celebrate Black History Month. We saw authentic costumes and instruments, heard and took part in songs and chants, and some of us even got to play along on djembes! Thank you so much for your contributions to allow us to have enjoyed this incredible experience.
We have been finishing off our learning on The Great Fire of London. After writing information picture books to show our learning, we published them. We also made plays to describe the changes in firefighting methods in London since the fire. We loved this unit and can’t wait to tell you all about it!
We topped off our learning this week with the super-fun spooky disco! Some children came in in costumes, some children danced themselves into a spin, some children just watched me dancing badly, but all children had a lovely time – and lovely snacks and refreshments thanks to the kind parent helpers (thanks so much) that made it all possible. A big thank you to Miss Hallett for making it all possible.

YR6 Hawk Class News @FP
Tue 22 Oct 2024We in Hawk Class @FP have had an amazing first half term at school. We have been working super hard in our maths to develop our fluency skills and we have studied formal methods of multiplication and division. In English, we wrote lots of amazing stories, and we have begun writing our social and political poetry on things we really care about.
In geography we have learnt so much more about rivers, in particular the River Thames and its uses to the city of London. We have been working so hard in our Teach Sport sessions on Thursdays developing our skills and how we control the ball when we play football.
We have been trying to learn how to be a better friend to those around us, and working on our relationships. We are so excited for our half term break, and we are celebrating in style – getting ready for our Spooky Disco !!!!!

YR2 Hummingbird Class News @FP
Mon 14 Oct 2024The children, in Hummingbird class @FP, have been artists and historians!
We have been learning about the style of Andy Goldsworthy and have recreated our own pieces of work. It was interesting to try and create some art without using glue to stick or paint but use nature’s colours and balancing.
We had a fantastic workshop where we were led through London during the Great Fire of 1666 while listening to Samuel Pepys diary. Did you know he buried cheese, wine and his diary?
