Year 3 Pelican Class News @FP
Welcome to Pelican class’ Newsletter!
Thank you to every parent who attended the ‘Parent Teacher’, evening, it was greatly appreciated.
In Pelican class @FP, we have had a busy and exciting previous Half-term. However, Parents this term promises to be even more eventful!
Our team would like to ask you to continue to support and encourage your child to attend school so that they can achieve the best from their learning. We plan to put on a LKS2 ‘Christmas Songs Extravaganza’ for 2024, that spread festive Cheer.
Reading: The children have been reading, ’24 Hours in the Stone Age’, a story about Joins a young girl as she goes hunting, makes her own stone tools and creates amazing cave art. We learn all about the dangers of life in the Stone Age, what makes a good shelter and what edible plants can be gathered in the wild. At the End the children explore the use of an Index and Glossary when reading.
The children are really enjoying this book and exploring the skills needed for reading and the development of their comprehension.
Young Writers’, Little Dreamers competition’, some exciting news about your children in both year three classes. Forty- two children were chosen for publication in ‘Wonderverse’ Poetry National book. Letters will have been given to the children and should be returned by Wednesday 13th November to the publishers or to School to be posted off. It’s really important that parents get their letters as ‘Young Writers’ publishers need your permission to publish your child’s work, so I really appreciate you taking the time to ensure they are posted off on your child’s behalf.
In English we have continued exploring what it means to be a writer and writing for different purposes. Year three have gone on to create, shape poems, Story books, and reports on ‘Henrietta Lacks’, for Black History Month.
In maths we continue to explore the value of each digit within a number. For example, the 5 in 350 represents 5 tens, or 50; however, the 5 in 5,006 represents 5 thousand, or 5,000. The children have been working less with worksheets and learning to present their work carefully in the maths books.
In Science we have been learning about our body’s skeleton, its importance to the body, and how it works.
In Music we continue to work on using the untune drum and the tune instrument of a xylophone to enrich our Christmas show.
