In Design and Technology in Parakeet class @FP, we have been learning about The Romans in History. We decided to create our own Roman shields in Design and Technology. We planned and designed them first then selected the materials we needed to create them. We even thought about our family crests and what they might look like. What do you think?

In English we have been working towards writing our own fables. We looked at features of fables, created our own characters and came up with a moral for our fable. We have also been working really hard on our handwriting. We published them this week. Have a look at our work!

In Art we have been looking at emotions and how we can create Art that makes us feel something. We looked at colours we could use to depict different emotions. We thought about what we could actually draw/paint to give the impression of different feelings. Can you guess which emotions we have created?

Jefte has been typing short stories on a laptop and created 5 last week alone! We are really proud of him and his work. Well done Jefte!

Kestrel Class @FP Geography Fieldwork Trip to Forster Park

This week, Kestrel Class took part in an exciting geography fieldwork trip to Forster Park. The children had the opportunity to engage in a variety of hands-on activities designed to develop their observation, recording, and map-reading skills.
As part of their fieldwork, the pupils sketched a map of the park and carefully labelled key landmarks, such as the playground, walking trails, and wooded areas. They also conducted a wildlife survey, using tally charts to record sightings of birds, butterflies, and other animals throughout the park.

In the wooded section of the park, children observed and noted the types of trees and collected different leaves, recording their findings to help identify tree species and understand seasonal changes. They also measured and recorded levels of noise pollution in different areas of the park, comparing how noise levels varied near roads, open spaces, and quiet wooded paths.
Additionally, the pupils carried out a survey of park users at different times of the day. They recorded the number of cyclists, pedestrians, and dogs observed in various parts of the park, helping them to understand patterns of human activity and how different areas of the park are used by the community.
The trip provided a valuable opportunity for real-world learning, encouraging curiosity, careful observation, and a deeper understanding of the local environment.

In Nightingale class @FP, Nightingale have been making the most of the lovely weather recently and they’ve enjoyed participating in different activities outdoors. This week they completed a phonics treasure hunt in the Nest garden area. Here are a few photos of the children using their phonic knowledge to read words. Great blending everyone!

The children also completed a piece of artwork as a group outside – they experimented with paint by mixing primary colours and they used different objects to make prints. You will see the end result at the Academic Review Day! Take a look at some photos of the budding artists in action!

Dove Class @FP Visit The Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park

What a day!! We explored the observatory looking at all the different clocks and history of time and then we walked over to the planetarium. We were all so excited to watch the show ‘Teds Space Adventure’, it was like being at the cinema but watching the screen on the ceiling. We learned all about the different planets and our solar system.

A great time was had by all and the children were absolutely fantastic.

Duckling Class @FP Welcome Their Butterfly Friends! 

This week in Duckling Class @FP, the children enjoyed a fun and hands-on activity as part of our topic on Healthy Eating – they made their very own fruit kebabs!

The children explored a colourful variety of fruits, including strawberries, bananas, grapes, apples and clementines. They were encouraged to talk about the colours, textures, and tastes of the fruits, helping to develop their vocabulary and sensory awareness. Using child-safe skewers, they carefully threaded the fruit pieces to create their own delicious kebabs.

This activity not only introduced children to new fruits, but also helped them develop important fine motor skills and independence. Everyone was so proud of their creations – and the best part was eating them at the end!

We’re so pleased with how enthusiastic the children were about making healthy choices and trying something new. Well done, Ducklings!

Over the course of this term, Year 3 Pelican class @FP have been learning about different periods of music and learning how to play some famous songs on the glockenspiel.

In Science, our topic has been light and they have completed many investigations using torches- discovering how shadows are formed, how light is reflected and whether a material is opaque, translucent or transparent.

They also thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Joy to Move’ festival that took place last week- learning lots of fun team games and creating their own ‘get fit’ campaign!

Year 1/2 Heron class @FP: Wow! Heron class's maths is storming along apace, due to their focus and application of knowledge in our Maths Mastery sessions. Each day, we spend a little time applying our Maths learning in different contexts, and using resources to represent mathematical concepts we've been learning. It is really helping us with our knowledge and understanding of Maths. Here we are, Year 1 and Year 2, using the Rekenreks - whites to the right, reds ready, Heron class!
