What a quacking week in Nursery! 🐣🦆
We’ve been learning how to care for ducklings — discovering what they need to stay happy and healthy. The children have loved gently holding them, showing their amazing character strengths of bravery, exploring, and learning along the way.
They also explored capacity through fun water play, worked together to build a life-sized duckling from LEGO, and got stuck into so many other feather-tastic activities.
From teamwork to curiosity, we’re flying high with our learning this term!

Recently, in Nightingale 2 class @FPhave, the children been focusing on building positive relationship with their peers. This has included Lego Therapy sessions with a range of different groupings, taking part in an adverb board game and our brand new ‘How to Help Others’ board game, which was kindly donated to us by Emile. In these sessions they have been identifying key emotions of themselves and others, learning to wait and take turns, as well as compliment each other. They have also begun creating their very own sensory wall, this term’s addition was using string. Finally, our recent regulation tool has been the 171 bus route on YouTube and Grayson very proudly was able to complete his own colour pattern using buses to support.

In Nightingale 1 class @FP, the children had an amazing time at Bellingham soft play this week! They enjoyed climbing, crawling, running and sliding!

Ethan said “I liked the tunnel slide the best”. Ethan and Nylah enjoyed racing down the big slide together and Ramiz had lots of fun on the swing. Cristian told us that his favourite part was the rope bridge. Everyone had great fun, including the adults who got to be big kids themselves on the slide and climbing frame! A special thanks to Mr De Roche for taking us on the minibus.

This half term, in Science, Year 3 Pelican class @FP, have been learning all about the function of plants. Pelican class had a chance to observe closely using celery and further used this to investigate the function of the stem. They also got to take a closer look at some roots and used kitchen towel and water to demonstrate how roots absorb water from the soil so that a plant can grow and be healthy.

Year 1/2 Heron class @FP have been making chairs for baby bear this week. Sadly, baby bear's chair collapsed when an inquisitive girl entered the three bear's house uninvited, but fret no more! Thanks to the children's learning about stability, strength and stiffness, baby bear can relax in the chair that will now last many, many uses.

In Hawk class @FP, we have been working so hard on our preparation for our upcoming SATS which will begin on 12th May 2025. We are a little nervous but as long as we try our best that is all that counts. We have managed to get outside to do our favourite subject – PE!!! We have been participating in Dodgeball with our amazing TeachSport coaches. 

In History we started to look at The Windrush topic which has been really interesting. We have also started our Science topic which is “Evolution and Inheritance”. 

Finally, we try to remember this poem in the leadup to our SATS week, knowing we have done all that we can and we are going to try our best. 

“SATs don’t measure sports, SATs don’t measure art, SATs don’t measure music, or the kindness in your heart. SATs don’t see your beauty, SATs don’t know your worth, SATs don’t see the reasons you were put upon this earth. SATs don’t see your magic, how you make others smile, SATs don’t time how quickly you can run a mile. SATs don’t hear your laughter, or see you’ve come this far, SATs are just a tiny glimpse of who you really are.

So sitting at your table, with a pencil and your test, Remember SATs aren’t who you are, remember you’re the best.”

Big news this week in Kingfisher class @FP as many of our students ran in the London Mini Marathon on Saturday. It was a warm day and the children did exceptionally well to run the entire 1 mile course.

“We had a great day out and lots of us went to Trafalgar Square afterwards to celebrate.”  – Hady

“I really enjoyed the mini marathon especially the cheering from the crowd. I celebrated in Chinatown with my friends and family.” – Frankie

“The best bit was when they handed us the medals.” – Mia

Last week in YR6 Eagle class @FP science, we delved into the fascinating world of inheritance and adaptation. To kick off our exploration, the children engaged in a creative activity involving the beloved Mr. Men and Little Miss characters. By selecting two characters as ‘parents,’ they designed imaginative ‘offspring,’ thoughtfully combining features from both to illustrate inherited traits. This exercise not only sparked creativity but also provided a tangible understanding of how characteristics are passed from one generation to the next. 

Through this engaging activity, they have learned that inherited characteristics—such as eye colour, body shape, and facial features—are passed down from parents to offspring, while other traits, like clothing choices or accessories, are influenced by the environment.  This has helped them understand the difference between inherited and environmental characteristics. The classroom buzzed with excitement as the children debated whether a top hat or a cheerful smile could be inherited.
