YR R/1 Dove Class News @FP
Thu 18 Sep 2025This week in Dove class @FP we have been focusing on the story ‘After the Storm’ by Nick Butterworth.
This children have been describing the characters and the setting in the story and retelling the story to others.
In maths we have been learning how to count on from a given number as well as using manipulative to find out what 1 more looks like. We have also looked at 1 less than a given number and have been singing songs such as ‘5 cheeky monkeys’ and ‘5 little speckled frogs’.
In art this week, we have been looking at the artist Pier Mondrian and his style of art using squares, rectangles, lines and blocks of colour.
We were also very lucky this week to participate in a workshop that was based around the story of ‘Merlin’. The children learned a new song and played a stop and freeze game.
Thank you to those parents who sent in baby photos. The children have absolutely loved looking at the photos and trying to guess who the pictures belong to and discussing how we have changed.
We kindly remind parents to bring in book backs on a Monday and Tuesday for your children’s books to be changed.

YR6 Eagle Class News @FP
Thu 11 Sep 2025Year 6 Eagle class @FP
Today, we took our curious Year 5 and 6 adventurers on a short but meaningful trip across the road as part of the Mayor’s Community Weekend. Hosted by the Downham Nutrition Partnership at Goldsmiths Community Centre, the children explored a fascinating display of Downham’s history—complete with unique artefacts, vintage books, and captivating photographs.
Year 6 pupils were especially drawn to the World War 2 section, curated by the Downham Reminiscence Group back in 1988—perfect prep for their upcoming history topic on WW2! They asked insightful questions and were truly engrossed. Ask your child what they discovered—you might be surprised what their curious minds uncovered!

YR3 Parakeet Class News @FP
Tue 09 Sep 2025e have had a fantastic two weeks in Parakeet Class @FP. We have made new friends and completed lots of learning. We have made some class rules that we all think are fair and have discussed what we need as a class to be successful learners.
In English we are writing our own picture books. We have generated ideas, main characters and events and sequenced them. We have been learning about tense and practicing our handwriting. Have a look at some of our story plans!
In History this term we are learning about the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings. We learnt what happened after the Romans left Britain. We learnt all about the invading and settling and look forward to learning much more. Have a look at some of our work!
In DT we are learning all about different food groups and why they are important. We learnt what we need to eat more of and what we could do with a little less of. We are very knowledgeable about healthy diets and can help you all at home if you ask us!

Rec Duckling Class @FP
Thu 04 Sep 2025What a wonderful first week we have had in Duckling Class @FP! We are so proud of how quickly the children have settled into their new routines. They have come into school with big smiles, lots of enthusiasm, and a real eagerness to learn.
Already, the children are beginning to build lovely new friendships. It has been a joy to see them sharing, taking turns, and helping one another as they explore their classroom and outdoor spaces.
This week, the children have been busy getting to know their new environment and showing us their creativity. They have had a go at writing their names and drawing self-portraits – we are very impressed with the effort and determination they have shown.
We are incredibly proud of each and every child for the confidence and kindness they have displayed in their first days at school. We know this is just the start of an exciting learning journey together, and we can’t wait to see all the wonderful things they will achieve this year.
Thank you for your support in helping make this transition so smooth.
