YR R/1 Dove Class News @FP
Wed 12 Feb 2025In Dove class @FP this week, we have been looking at the story ‘The Magic Paintbrush’. We have loved using our imaginations to create something that we would like to come to life, painting, drawing and writing about our creations.
In geography we have been learning about positional language, directing others around the room using forwards, backwards, left and right. Then we had a go with the Bee Bots, pressing the arrows we needed to move the bee around the map.
In science we have been conducting lots of experiments. Have a look at some of the pictures and ask your child about them. It was so much fun.
Next half term we will be learning about Superheroes and people who help us as well as planting/growing. We hope you have a lovely half term.

REC Duckling Class News @FP
Tue 11 Feb 2025This week in Reception Ducking Class @FP,
This week, Duckling Class @FP has been buzzing with excitement as we dove into a fun, unexpected twist on a classic tale – “The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig”. With its humorous take on the familiar story of the three little pigs, this book has captured the children’s imaginations and sparked wonderful conversations about creativity, problem-solving, and resilience.
What’s the story about?
In this delightful retelling, we follow three brave little wolves who are determined to build their homes and protect them from the Big Bad Pig. However, this pig is no ordinary villain—he’s clever and uses all sorts of unexpected gadgets and tools to try and blow their houses down! From brick houses to flower-filled ones, the wolves show that with clever thinking and teamwork, you can overcome any challenge. It’s a tale full of surprises, laughter, and a very happy ending!
What have we been learning?
This story has given us so many opportunities for exploration and learning:
- Creative Thinking & Problem-Solving: The wolves’ ability to think creatively while building their homes inspired the children to come up with their own inventive ideas. From houses made of flowers to homes built from strong materials, our little ones had so much fun building their own “safe” spaces during playtime.
- Perseverance & Resilience: The wolves’ determination in the face of the pig’s challenges is a fantastic example of resilience. We discussed how it’s important to keep going, even when things don’t go as planned.
- Character Exploration: The story gave us the chance to talk about how characters can be both good and bad in their own ways. What makes the wolves so clever? What’s the pig’s motivation? The children loved sharing their ideas on what makes each character special!
- Literacy Skills: As we read and retold the story, the children practiced their storytelling skills. They were eager to remember the details and excited to discuss their favorite parts. We also focused on new vocabulary and descriptive language, helping them connect words to their own experiences.
What’s Coming Up Next?
The fun doesn’t stop here! We will continue exploring themes from The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig with a series of hands-on activities:
- Building Challenge: Just like the wolves, the children will design and construct their own homes using a variety of materials. How can they make their houses as strong as possible? It’s sure to be a fantastic exploration of engineering and teamwork.
- Art and Craft: The wolves and their unique homes will come to life in our art corner. We’ll be using different materials like paper, sticks, and fabric to create our own versions of the wolves and their creative houses.
- Role-Playing Fun: The children will step into the story by acting out scenes as the wolves and the Big Bad Pig, allowing them to practice their language and social skills in a fun and imaginative way.
Home Learning Challenge!
We’d love for you to continue the fun at home! This week’s challenge: Build your own “safe house,” just like the wolves! What materials would you use to make it strong and secure? Is it made of bricks, flowers, or something else? Snap a photo or draw a picture of your creation and bring it to school to share with the class!
Thank you for your continued support. We can’t wait to see how the children continue to engage with this delightful story and all the creative ideas that spring from it!

YR3 Parakeet Class News @FP
Wed 05 Feb 2025In Parakeet class @FP, we have been reading the book ‘Eat your Peas’ by Kes Gray and Nick Sharratt in Parakeet Class. This week we have been tasked with writing our own persuasive letters. We looked at arguments for eating peas and made up some funny ideas of our own. We then thought of ways to persuade Daisy to eat her peas and had a lot of fun doing so! Wouldn’t you eat your peas for a brand-new bike and a chocolate factory of your own? We then went on to write a letter to Daisy and they turned out very persuasive. I know I will be eating my peas for the foreseeable future!
This week we have been learning how to measure in cm, mm and metres. We have looked at what would be most appropriate for different objects. We have been looking at equivalent lengths and how to add and subtract lengths. We have also measured things ourselves to get lots of practise in!
In DT we have been trying to make our own pyramids to link with our history topic on Ancient Egypt. We have looked at pyramid nets and experimented with different materials to make our pyramids stronger.

YR6 Eagle Class News @FP
Mon 03 Feb 2025YR6 Eagle class @FP, in our topic about ‘Light’ we are learning how light travels. We have conducted several investigations and found out that if you place a torch on a table in a dark room, the beam travels in a straight line. The shadow has the same shape as the object that cast it and it changes as the light source moves. We have used mirrors to make periscopes. This week we have looked at Isaak Newton’s discovery of how light shining onto a glass prism is a similar process to a formation of rainbow as the glass prism separates the white light into colours. To show this, we have made colour changing wheels- when you spin it very fast, the colours blend and you can see white again.

REC Duckling Class News @FP
Thu 30 Jan 2025This week in Reception Ducking Class @FP, we had an exciting and hands-on learning experience inspired by our story of the week: The Gingerbread Man! The children have been fully immersed in this classic tale, bringing it to life through storytelling, art, and a very special baking activity.
Story Time and Literacy
We started the week by reading The Gingerbread Man together, exploring the characters, the sequence of events, and the exciting chase. The children participated enthusiastically, acting out parts of the story and repeating the famous line, “Run, run, as fast as you can!” This not only reinforced their understanding of the story but also helped develop their listening and speaking skills.
Creative Baking Fun
To make the story even more memorable, the children became little bakers and made their very own gingerbread men! Guided by their teachers, the children learned how to measure ingredients, mix dough, and carefully shape it into gingerbread people. As the aroma of baking filled the air, the excitement grew!
Each child decorated their gingerbread man with colorful icing and toppings, adding unique details to their creations. It was wonderful to see their creativity and focus during this activity. Of course, the best part was tasting their delicious creations. Thankfully, none of the gingerbread men managed to run away!
Learning Through Play
This activity wasn’t just fun—it was packed with valuable learning opportunities. The children practiced:
- Math skills: Measuring ingredients and counting decorations.
- Fine motor skills: Rolling, cutting, and decorating the gingerbread men.
- Teamwork: Working together and sharing tools.
- Language skills: Retelling parts of the story while they baked.
What’s Next?
The children have truly enjoyed this week’s adventure. Building on the theme, we’ll be exploring other related activities such as designing storyboards and creating their own versions of the tale. Don’t forget to ask your child about their favourite part of baking and which character they liked most from The Gingerbread Man.
Have a fabulous weekend… Mrs Dervish

YR3 Pelican Class News @FP
Wed 29 Jan 2025This week we have really enjoyed Looking at the artist Keith Mallet. We have been doing observational drawings of instruments and plants in the classroom and using our artistic skills to make our drawings as realistic as possible.
In science, we have been experimenting with how objects move on different surfaces. We set up an experiment using a marble, slope and different surfaces and we found that the marble moved quickest on the soft, smooth surfaces. We look forward to more exciting learning ahead this term
We have also been enjoying learning about how our brain works and learn in our My Happy Mind sessions. This week we learnt about how our brain stores memories and skills to help up get better at things. We then wrote about something we couldn’t do before that we can now do really well.
