  • REC Puffin Class News @FP

    Thu 25 Jan 2024

Puffin Class have had a fantastic week. Our focus text was The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The children retold the story using props they made. The children were inspired by our use of makaton and wanted to learn signs to aid them in retelling their story to their friends. They worked together to build bridges and work together to design a bridge strong enough to hold various objects.

We even had a visit from the Troll himself! The children asked him various questions about his life, the foods he likes to and where he lives. No children were harmed from this visit.

We have also really enjoyed our phonics dice game and messy play.

  • YR5 Magpie Class News @FP

    Tue 23 Jan 2024

YR5 Magpie c;ass @FP have had a busy start to the Spring term. We are very excited to be attending swimming lessons on Mondays and some of us are already making great progress!

In Maths, we have been focusing on adding and subtracting mixed numbers that have different denominators. We focused on neat presentation to support our methods. We are now going to start looking at formal multiplication methods.

For English, we have been inspired by recent celebrity memoirs and decided to write our own. The children have shown great maturity when speaking about their most meaningful and life changing memories. We have focused on painting pictures with our words to inspire empathy from the reader.

The children have loved learning about Space (specifically the Earth, Sun and Moon) in Science and how these link with Time Zones in Geography. These subjects have helped us to think about how the world works and the importance of our solar system.

Year 5 were introduced to ceramicist Peggy Bjerkan who creates abstract masks in Art. We researched her work and have started to plan our own masks inspired by her work. They children especially enjoyed finding ways to incorporate nature into their designs – just like Peggy!

  • YR6 Eagle Class News @FP

    Mon 22 Jan 2024

This half term in Eagle class @FP, as part of our Light and Sight Science Topic, we are trying to answer the question: Why does my shadow change length over the course of a day?

We have been investigating how light travels in a straight line and reflects to help us see. We will test how shadows have the same shape as the objects that cast them.

On Monday we enjoyed making our own periscopes, as we are looking at how simple optical instruments work e.g. telescope, binoculars, mirrors, magnifying glasses etc.

  • YR3/4 Starling Class News @FP

    Fri 12 Jan 2024

Welcome back everyone to Spring term from Starling Class @FP!

This term are we learning all about the Shang Dynasty in History, manga art, electricity in Science and natural disasters in Geography. Did you know Mr Braganza studied Geography at university in 2006!

We are reading Grimwood in DR and have met the main characters of Ted and Nancy. Can you guess what animals they are?

In English, we are writing a setting focused short story. If you could write a story set anywhere, where would it be? Today, we gathered ideas of where we want our stories set. The class came up with haunted houses, Antarctica and jungles.

Thanks readers! Everyone in Starling Class.

  • YR6 Hawk Class News @FP

    Thu 11 Jan 2024

This half term has been a quick start as SATs are looming ever closer. The children have been practising many skills, focusing upon arithmetic and grammar short bursts amongst their other lessons.

A gentle reminder that every pupil in the class has their log-ins for a variety of computer-aided learning programs. I would really recommend that children use TTRS to hone their times tables.

Last term seems so long ago but it should be mentioned how well the children performed in front of the whole school in the Christmas music show. They didn’t miss a beat when playing a variety of steel drums including bass, tenor pans and double guitars. I wish you could have been there!
