In art, we looked at ways to create texture using a pencil. We took sensible 'selfies' using the I-pads and used these to draw self portraits. At first some of us found it difficult but we used our Raj Resilience skills to keep going. Our teacher taught us that our eyebrows were not solid blocks and our noses were not triangles. We drew fine lines to show the texture of our eyebrows and looked carefully at the shapes we could see on our faces. Can you guess who these self portraits are of?

Magpie Class have been studying Sikhism and have explored the life of Guru Nanak. We have explored the many hidden messages within his stories and discussed how these are similar to the rules and values we have at Forster Park.

English - Aliens and Superheroes

In English we had an unexpected alien attack our classrooms! This inspired us to design and create interesting, slimy alien characters for our superb Sci-Fi stories. Our work was fantastic! We use a range of the remember tools to write interesting stories, some of us write our stories in a similar way to Cosmic, by Frank Cottrell Boyce. We then, published them into books! We also wrote a blurb and designed front covers. Our books are displayed on our book shelf for anyone to read!

Not only did an alien come to visit, but so did a Meteorite! It was suspected that a Superhero escaped from it and left the school without us knowing! We were really excited about researching Superheroes and where they came from. We designed our own Superheroes from; Dentist Dood to Black Matter and wrote extremely interesting non-chronological reports about them!

Maths

In Maths we have been beating our Learn IT score, our Beat That score and our SAFE scores nearly every week! We just love BIG Maths in Y5! This week we have been participating in some real life maths! We have been reading recipes and baking cakes – not just to eat! But to practice our measuring skills, reading scales skills and converting between grams and kilograms. Having a pretty cupcake or tasty biscuit made it that little bit more exciting!

Science-Seeds and Plants

In Science, we have had so much fun! We took part in a live lesson to see if we were; non-tasters, tasters or super tasters! We have also been working with Reception, during Science week, to plant and grow some seeds/ bulbs. We designed an experiment to see if the plants would grow without; water, light and soil. We can’t wait to see what has happened!

Topic-Planets

In Topic, we have designed and created our own planets! We looked at the planets from the solar system; their shape, colours and moons and used this to influence our designs. We spent a few weeks paper maching the shape and painting the final pieces.
