Welcome to Year 2!
Year 2 really enjoy completing their half-termly mission homework. Here are a couple of dragon pieces completed at home. Well done and thanks to parents and carers who help and encourage.
Swan Class has been reading the story The Three Rocks. It is about a cheeky traveller who deceives town folk to feed him. We looked at healthy food items that we could put into our cooking pot and wrote a tasty recipe. We changed the story and made it our own but we had the option to change the main character or food items. Here are some examples of our fantastic work. What is your favourite recipe?
Learning in Year 2
After our meteor landing we looked closely into Superheroes. We read ‘Eliot the Midnight Superhero’ which was a great story. We have enjoyed our ‘Superhero’ learning and created our own Superhero’s and described them and made comic strips of how they saved the day! We then wrote stories using our new superhero characters.
We have been doing ‘Superhero maths’. We have been shopping for our superhero’s accessories and adding money. We have also been using maps and co-ordinates to find out where things are. We then read thermometers and scales to see if the conditions in various places are acceptable for our superheroes.
In Science we enjoyed two experiments. We made raisins dance using vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. We learnt about solids, liquids and gases. The raisins absorbed the gases and danced up and down. We used what we learnt about mixing vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to blow balloons up. We loved our experiments and fed back in groups. We worked alongside Year 6 for this and loved working with the older children.
